Isle of Arran (Scots Gaelic: Eilean Arainn) is the biggest island in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland, and with an area of about 167 sq miles. Arran is the 7th largest Scottish island, is mountainous terrain and is widely know to be a geologist's paradise.

There has been constant habitation on Arran since the early Neolithic times, and numerous prehistoric remains evident. Goidelic-speaking people from Ireland migrated from the 6th century and colonised the island. The island evolved into a centre of religious activity. Arran was once the property of the Norwegian crown during the "Viking Age" before it was formally taken over by the kingdom of Scotland during the thirteenth century.
Arran's Islands

Arran has 3 surrounding islands, Eilean na h-Àirde Bàine lies off the south west corner of Arran at Corriecravie, it is a skerry which can be accessed from Arran during low tide. The Holy Isle is located to the east off Lamlash, Pladda lies off the south coast and Hamilton Isle can be found off Clauchlands Point 1.2 km (3/4 mile) to the north of Holy Isle.
